Following the analysis of the recent surfacing condition surveys there are sections of the carriageways which require improvements / reconstruction.

Under the scheme the existing 40mph speed limit at Goytre and will be extended and include a section of the A4042 towards Abergavenny. The speed reduction is intended to reduce the number of accidents at the Goytre bends.

The South Wales Trunk Road Agency’s Framework Contractor, Alun Griffiths are to undertake the construction of the scheme and works will commence in November 2007. The works are to be completed in November 2007.

The aim of the project is to extend the existing 40mph speed limit at Goytre towards Abergavenny. The speed reduction over this extended length is required to reduce the number of accidents at the Goytre bends.

The surfacing of the carriageway is to be resurfaced between Penperlleni and Llanover, to extend the life of the road and to reduce the maintenance cost of patch repairs in the future.
