Further to the analysis of the structures along the A40 between Raglan and Abergavenny, problems have been identified with the condition of the waterproofing on the bridge decks. Also identified are problems with the safety barriers in certain locations and damage to two culverts within Abergavenny.

A programme to renew the waterproofing on the bridge decks on the A40 trunk road, along with improvements to vehicle restraint barriers on the bridges has been agreed. The repairs to the damage culverts within Abergavenny, will also be carried out under the scheme.

The South Wales Trunk Road Agency’s Framework Contractor, Alun Griffiths will undertake the construction of the scheme and works will commence in November 2007. The works are to be completed by March 2008.

The aim of the project is to extend the life of the bridge decks, to improve the safety of the traveling public and to prolong the life of the culverts.
