The South Wales Trunk Road Agency (SWTRA) awarded the 3 year, £3M per
annum, framework contract to CEMEX in 2006. The purpose of the contract is to carry out planned and reactive maintenance to the motorway and trunk roads network in South Wales. The framework was termed as the ‘central’ section by SWTRA, and covers the primary high speed routes that service South Wales between M4 Junction 32 to M4 Junction 49 also including the A470, and A465.

The key processes provided to SWTRA include:

  • Highways maintenance
  • Highway surfacing
  • Anti skid surfacing
  • Traffic management on varied schemes
  • Site clearance, earthworks, drainage & safety fencing
  • Road signage, communications & markings
  • Lighting columns and associated ducting
  • Modification of gantries
  • Provision of environmental barriers
  • Ability to work outside of scope
  • Working adjacent to high speed roads
  • Provision of night works to minimise disruption
  • Environmentally sensitive areas
  • Minor civil engineering works
  • Ensuring flow of traffic and maintaining journey times
