Agency Management and Funding

The Agency is managed from its headquarters at The Courtyard, Llandarcy Business Park which is off Junction 43 of the M4. It is supported by regional operational offices at St Clears and Malpas (Newport) and staff working from the Traffic Management Centre at Coryton (Cardiff)

The Agency has an annual budget of circa £30m and delivers the service via service level agreements (SLA’s) with local authority service providers, together with framework contracts for the private sector to deliver programmes of highway, structural and horticultural maintenance.

SWTRA prepare a rolling five year maintenance and improvement programme which is reviewed and prioritised each year. Having identified what needs to be done in a particular year bids are submitted to WAG for the works. Funding is then allocated on a prioritised scheme basis so that the Agency can deliver a value for money Highway Maintenance programme on behalf of the Assembly.
